Are You Too Smart For Your Own Good?

One of the talks I regularly present is titled “Are You Too Smart For Your Own Good.” I love that title, because it perfectly describes one of the main reasons we don’t always experience the divine flow in our lives. We let logic, reason, and all that stuff we think we “know” interfere with the divine guidance we are receiving. The direction we are being pointed in might be perfectly clear, yet we dismiss it or overrule it because it “doesn’t make sense.”

One of the key principles for living life in the divine flow is to let go of what you think you know. That doesn’t mean that you have to forget everything you have been taught, or ignore the conclusions you have drawn based upon your experience. It simply means to keep an open mind—to know that there is always more to know than you currently know.

I remember a time a couple of summers ago when the electric bill for the apartment I was living in suddenly skyrocketed. I thought there were only three possible explanations for this. One, the electric meter was faulty. Two, there was something wrong with my air conditioning unit. Or three, some other appliance in my home was “pulling” too much current.

I called the maintenance man at my complex to come over and take a look. Together, it took us several hours to track down the problem. And guess what? The problem wasn’t 1, 2, or 3. It was 4. It was something that neither of us would ever have thought of.

As it turned out, the electric meter for my apartment, and the one for the apartment below me, had been accidentally switched during the construction of our units. For several years, I had actually been paying someone else’s electric bill! I never noticed anything unusual until a lady moved in downstairs who kept her thermostat set on 65 degrees day and night, and kept the fan blowing 24 hours a day.

That little incident helped me realize the truth of the old expression, “You just never know!”

To live life in the divine flow you have to be willing to admit that no matter how smart you are, or how much information you have accumulated over the years, your knowledge is still very limited and highly biased. As certain as you are about something, if you are willing to admit that there could still be something that you just haven’t considered, you will leave an opening in your mind that is wide enough for divine direction to get through.

Is there something you think you “know” right now? That’s okay, as long as you are willing to know more than that . . . as long as you are willing to see something from a different perspective . . . as long as you are willing to be wrong, even.

That little bit of willingness is all God needs to get through to you, and to guide you to your highest good in a way that you would never conceive of on your own.

Here’s to the brilliance that comes with not knowing . . . and knowing that you don’t know!

I would like to share a few of the things I am very grateful for today.

I am very grateful that my husband is home today.  He is transitioning out of his job and we are moving this year, so it FEELS so good to have him home.

I am very grateful that the sun is shining today and the SNOW is melting.  Yay!

I am very grateful for our RV because we are going to be LIVING in it for several months this year while our new log home is being built and after we lease out our current home.  Should be very interesting

I am very grateful for my two chihuahuas who took a ride to the grocery store with me today.  They love to ride in the car.

I am very grateful for the grocery store that offers me such a HUGE variety of food and products for my convenience.  Aren’t grocery stores wonderful?

Living Success or Living As a Victim?

I normally do not watch TV, but the other day I turned it on and there was a guy on one of those local talk shows. His name is Bill and he was telling his story about how he was wrongly diagnosed as being HIV positive, and lived that way for over six years!

He went into great detail about the anguish, fear and pain he had been subjected to. For over six years he has lived in fear of dying from AIDS. Now the skeptic in me wants to know why he is on TV telling his story. Is he doing it to help others, or is there another reason – such as the more publicity he gets, the larger the settlement offer he is likely to receive from the doctor’s malpractice insurance company? I’ll let you decide.

Now to be fair, let’s face facts. The fact is, the doctor’s did make a mistake and misdiagnosed him. The doctor’s mistakenly told him he had a medical condition, which at the time seemed like a death sentence. The doctors really messed up.

On the other hand, from my point of view, Bill has another serious life-threatening condition that needs immediate attention. And this condition is much worse than HIV. He has a serious case of “victimitis.”

He is living his life as a victim instead of someone who was given the greatest gift a human can ever receive – the opportunity to live a consciousness life. By conscious I mean knowing that we must live each day as though it were our last day on earth. Now the fact that he may die 30, 50, or 80 years later than he thought, is just a bonus. But the fact is, he was given the priceless opportunity to spend every day, living in the moment with conscious thought about the people he loves, what he can do to contribute to others while he is still on this planet, and the true meaning of his life.

Everything he did on a daily basis could have been filtered through a much more discerning filter than most of us have – which is to stop focusing on the future and live and create our reality in the moment. And there is no greater gift you can receive. But to receive it, you have to let go of the belief that you are a victim of your past. Obviously something Bill is not doing. Instead, he would rather tell his “story” and remain a victim.

Recently I was having a discussion with a friend of mine. During the conversation she told me about how she was the victim of terrible, horrific abuse when she was a child. In fact, this was not the first time she had mentioned this.

The advice I gave her was to never mention it to me ever again, or to anyone else for that matter unless she was ready to heal the situation and let it go. But in the meantime, talking to anyone about her experiences just impresses it deeper into her subconscious mind. Since the subconscious can only focus in the present moment it thinks the abuse is happening again and again, each time she tells her “story”. All this does is help her to hang on to her victim status.

You are invited to participate in a Wealth, Abundance and Well-Being Exercise.  I hope you find as much benefit as I have. 

Wealth, Abundance and Well-Being Manifesting Exercise

We each have our own perception of the meaning of these words and that is perfect.

Whatever “Wealth” means to you is perfect.
Whatever “Abundance” means to you is perfect.
Whatever “Well-Being” means to you is perfect.

I believe there is a flow of Wealth, Abundance and Well-Being flowing to us at all times and the only reason we do not receive it is because we are not open to receiving it or allowing our good to come to us. We have been taught that we are not worthy or that we do not deserve.

Know that you ARE worthy and you DO deserve – simply because you were born. You don’t have to do anything to deserve it.

The Affirmations – Memorize them

I NOW release all resistance to the Divine flow of Wealth, Abundance and Well-Being.

I AM now receiving the Divine flow of Wealth, Abundance and Well-Being.

I am GRATEFUL for the Divine flow of Wealth, Abundance and Well-Being.

The Exercise

Perform as many of the following steps as often as you can throughout your day.

Designate a Notebook and a a few colorful pens and write and repeat each of these Affirmations as often as possible throughout your day – for at LEAST 5 minutes each time.

Spend 30 minutes first thing in the morning and last thing at night in meditation as you repeat these Affirmations.  Our brain focuses during sleep on the thoughts we think for the last 30 – 45 minutes before sleep.

If you have a meditation audio, listen to it while you write and repeat the Affirmations. These are my favorites and you can get fr..ee demos of some of them:

Meditation can be as simple as focusing on your breathing.  Set a timer for 5 minutes or 30 minutes or whatever time you choose to designate.

Throughout the day when you find yourself thinking a negative thought, or feeling angry or sad, or any other emotion other than joy and happiness, repeat these affirmations as often as possible.

Step outside and lift your arms to the Heavens and repeat these Affirmations as often as possible – OUT LOUD.

Repeat the Affirmations silently to yourself as often as possible.

IN OTHER WORDS, repeat these Affirmations until they are second nature to you.  Let them become a part of your constant thoughts.

Write down how you feel, any changes or shifts in your feelings of Wealth, Abundance and Well-Being.  Keep a record of any manifestation or any evidence of prosperity that you attract with your participation in this exercise.

I will be imagining hearing YOU repeating these Affirmations, knowing that you will be manifesting great results!
